Why Should I Become a Real Estate Agent?

With an average real estate salary averaging $58,350 in Washington, it is no wonder why real estate has become such a popular career choice. Depending on experience, real estate brokers can make a salary of anywhere from $30,000 to over $100,000.

To become a real estate broker in Washington and represent buyers and sellers in the real estate transaction process, a candidate must complete 7 steps, including passing the Washington Real Estate Exam.

What Should I Complete Before Registering for the Exam?

Before a candidate can register to take their Washington Real Estate Exam, they must complete 90 hours of pre-licensing education. The 90-Hour Washington pre-license program is split into two courses: the 60-Hour Real Estate Fundamentals Course, and the 30-Hour Real Estate Practice Course.

These courses provide information about the various real estate careers, activities, companies, and government agencies that regulate the industry. Potential licensees must complete this education within two years before the licensing exam.

How Do You Schedule Your Exam?

To schedule your exam online, head to PSI's website at http://schedule.psiexams.com/. First, you must register as a student. However, you need your school to send proof of course completion from an approved school before you can register. You will not be able to register until PSI receives your course completion documents electronically from your school.

Internet scheduling is available 24 hours a day, but you must pay by credit card. To schedule by phone, call PSI toll-free at 855-746-8168 from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) Monday through Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

What Can You Bring on Exam Day?

On exam day, candidates must bring two forms of identification. Calculators are permitted so long as they are non-programmable, silent, and without printing capabilities.

If a cell phone or other device is heard after the exam begins, the applicant will not be allowed to finish the exam.

What Is NOT Allowed on Exam Day?

Make sure you are prepared on the day of your exam with only the approved items, as you do not want to get turned away. You must store your watches, hats, wallets, and keys in a locker, but there are also some items you should not bring on exam day:

• Reference materials
• Cell phones or other electronic devices
• Food or drinks
• Visitors or guests
• Firearms

How Much Does It Cost to Take the Washington Real Estate Exam?

The Washington Real Estate Exam requires you to pay a $210 broker examination fee. Scheduling an appointment online requires you to pay the total amount via credit card. You also have the option to pay with a cashier's check, money order, or personal check.

You can take the Washington broker exam as many times as you need to pass. However, each attempt costs $210 and exam fees are nonrefundable.

If you need to reschedule, PSI allows you to reschedule your exam one time for free. Reschedule by visiting PSI Exams or by calling PSI at 855-746-8168 at least one (1) business day before your scheduled testing session.

What Is on the Washington State Real Estate Exam?

There are 130 questions on the Washington Real Estate Broker Examination. The state-specific portion is 30 questions. The national portion is 100 questions. The questions are not separated by sections. To pass, you need to answer 70% of the questions correctly in each section.

How Hard Is the Washington Real Estate Exam?

The exam can be challenging, but it is not something that should intimidate students. As of 2024, The Washington Real Estate Broker Exam pass rate is 71% on the national portion and 75% on the state portion. But don’t be intimidated by those numbers. What Should You Expect on the Day of Your Test?

On the exam day, you should report to the test center thirty (30) minutes before the examination.

Candidates must register for the exam with their first and last name as it appears on their government-issued identification. They must provide two forms of identification and sign a roster to confirm their identity.

Valid primary forms of identification:

• driver's license with photograph
• state identification card with photograph
• passport
• military identification card with photograph

The secondary form of identification must show your name and signature

• credit card with signature
• social security card with signature

Candidates are required to present biometric identification, such as a fingerprint scan or a photo. Candidates take their exams on a computer at the test center. You do not need computer experience or typing skills to take your exam. Applicants have three (3) hours and 30 minutes to answer 130 questions.

When Will You Get Your Results?

You will report to the testing supervisor to get your score report once you have finished the Broker exam. This score report shows your exam results and provides diagnostic scoring data for any topics that you did not pass.

Scores are weighted and determined by the Angoff scale. A scaled score of 70% is required to pass.

After passing the examination, you receive a notification of your results and a license application to complete and submit.

If you fail the exam, you will be given reapplication instructions.
