With an average real estate salary averaging $58,350 in Washington, it is no wonder why real estate has become such a popular career choice. Depending on experience, real estate brokers can make a salary of anywhere from $30,000 to over $100,000.
To become a real estate broker in Washington and represent buyers and sellers in the real estate transaction process, a candidate must complete 7 steps, including passing the Washington Real Estate Exam.

Before Registering for the Exam
Before a candidate can register to take their Washington Real Estate Exam, they must complete 90 hours of pre-licensing education. The 90-Hour Washington pre-license program is split into two course:
These courses provide information about the various real estate careers, activities, companies, and government agencies that regulate the industry. Potential licensees must complete this education within two years before the licensing exam.
Additionally, candidates should download the PSI Exam Handbook, which will provide further information on the Broker Examination.
How Do You Schedule Your Exam?
To schedule over the Internet, access PSI's website at http://schedule.psiexams.com/. First, you must register as a student.
PSI must receive course completion documents electronically from your school before you can register.
Internet scheduling is available 24 hours a day. To schedule online, you must pay by credit card. You need your school to send proof of course completion from an approved school before you can register.
To schedule by phone, call PSI toll-free at 855-746-8168 from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) Monday through Thursday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday and 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday.

What Can You Bring on Exam Day?
On exam day, candidates must bring two forms of identification. Calculators are permitted so long as they are non-programmable, silent, and without printing capabilities.
If a cell phone or other device is heard after the exam begins, the applicant will not be allowed to finish their exam.
What Is NOT Allowed on Exam Day?
- Reference materials
- Cell phones or other electronic devices
- Food or drinks
- Visitors or guests
- Firearms
You must store your watches, hats, wallets, and keys in a locker.
How Much Does It Cost to Take the Washington Real Estate Exam?
The candidate must pay a $210 fee for a broker examination fee. If scheduling your appointment online, you must pay the total amount via credit card when scheduling the exam.
You can take the Washington broker exam as many times as you need to pass. Each attempt costs $210. Exam fees are nonrefundable.
You can also pay via cashier's check, money order, or personal check.
If you need to reschedule, PSI allows you to reschedule your exam one time for free. Reschedule by visiting PSI Exams or by calling PSI at 855-746-8168 at least one (1) business day before your scheduled testing session.

What Is on the Washington State Real Estate Exam?
The Washington Real Estate Broker Examination consists of 130 total questions. The state-specific portion is 30 questions. The national portion is 100 questions. The questions are not separated by sections. To pass, you need to answer a weighted 70% of the questions correctly from each section.

What Should You Expect on the Day of Your Test?
On the exam day, candidates should report to the test center thirty (30) minutes before the examination.
Candidates must register for the exam with their first and last name as it appears on their government-issued identification. They must provide two forms of identification and sign a roster to confirm their identity.
Valid primary forms of identification:
- driver's license with photograph
- state identification card with photograph
- passport
- military identification card with photograph
The secondary form of identification must show your name and signature
- credit card with signature
- social security card with signature
A candidate must provide biometric identification, such as photography or a fingerprint scan. Candidates take their exams on a computer at the test center. You do not need computer experience or typing skills to take your exam. Applicants have three (3) hours and 30 minutes to answer 130 questions.

How to Pass Your Exam

Your Results
After completing the Broker examination, you will report to the testing supervisor to receive your score report. This score report shows your result for your examination and gives diagnostic scoring information for any topics you did not pass.
Scores are weighted and determined by the Angoff scale. A scaled score of 70% is required to pass.
After passing the examination, you receive a notification of your results and a license application to complete and submit.
If you fail the exam, you will be given reapplication instructions.
