This course has been developed to meet the NAR Ethics requirements.

The Code of Ethics, which is similar in nature to the Code of Professional Responsibility to be followed by all lawyers, was enacted by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and must be followed by all REALTORS®. It has been stated that "adherence to the Code is a great bond between REALTORS® throughout the country." The Code is the only self-imposed national regulation of the real estate profession. By crossing all state lines, it creates an environment in which interstate cooperation is possible. The Code should be distinguished from the "law" as made by the courts or legislatures. Further, it is a separate body from the "Regulations" promulgated by the Real Estate Regulators. All three have, however, a common thread: they are designed to protect. They also permit each REALTOR® to be able to anticipate future behavior: how we and everyone else ought to act.

This holds just as true today as it did 100 years ago. New and emerging technology, the advent of social media and the use of services and applications changes how we perform our daily tasks in business but does not take away our responsibility to the industry or the consumers we serve to act in an ethical manner.

In this course we will look at emerging technology and discuss how Ethics plays a role in our interaction with others online just as it does "in real life".

Course Topics include:

  • An introduction to ethics
  • Online etiquette
  • Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • Competence
  • Process for Enforcing the Code of Ethics

  • Exercises and Interaction to help the student identify key areas of concern

The course contains numerous multiple choice quizzes, exercises requiring brief written responses to ethical situations, and a final multiple choice exam.
