All Colorado mortgage brokers will need to complete their 40 hours of mandated qualifying education and examination prior to Jan 1, 2009. Failure to complete the education and examination will leave mortgage brokers subject to disciplinary action against their license.

Requirements for Mortgage Broker Licensing in Colorado

Education: 40 hours of qualifying education must be completed prior to state examination
Background Check: Fingerprint Based Criminal History Background check must be completed prior to licensure
Surety Bond:Prior to licensing, an applicant for license shall post a $25,000 surety bond
Errors & Omissions Insurance: Mortgage Brokers are required to obtain coverage for not less than $100,000 per claim/$300,000 per licensed individual
Exam & License Application: After passing the state mandated exam, the application can be completed online through the Colorado Division of Real Estate
