Important Update concerning Mortgage Education in Colorado
Rule changes undertaken by the Division of Real Estate require you to complete a 20 hour course in order to obtain a Mortgage Loan Originator license in Colorado. At this time there is no approved Mortgage Broker Education in Colorado that will qualify beginning on January 1st, 2010. We expect the first approved courses to be available in February. This is subject to change. If you have questions please email us at mbinstructor@vaned.com and we will be happy to assist you.
Question: If I completed the licensing requirements prior to January 1st, 2010, will I be required to take the new NMLS&R exam in 2010?
Answer: Yes. Visit the VanEd NewsLog post from January 4th, 2010 for new registration requirements and information. Click Here
Question: If I took the state exam in 2009 and failed, will I be able to take it again?
Answer: No. If you did not complete BOTH the education AND examination requirements prior to January 1st, 2010 you will be required to complete the new 20 hour Mortgage Loan Originator course and the new NMLS&R exam when it becomes available in 2010. Our understanding is that this is per a HUD policy letter.
Question: I didn't complete my coursework and/or examination before the end of the year. What do I need to do?
Answer: You will need to complete the new requirements. We recommend applying for a Temporary License from the DRE in order to continue or begin to work as an MLO in Colorado while you complete your education and examination requirements.
Question: How do I apply for a temporary Mortgage Broker or Loan Originator License?
Answer: Use the Temporary Mortgage Loan Originator Application available from the DRE. Temporary licenses will allow you to work as an MLO in Colorado for a period of up to 120 days.
What steps should I take now if I want to get a Mortgage Loan Originator License?

Have the sponsoring MLO complete the Temporary Mortgage Loan Originator Application found on the Division of Real Estates website
Temporary licenses are only valid for 120 days from the initial date the temporary licensee completed the application and paid the $350 fee.
