Continuing Education Course Outline

By completing this course you will be introduced to every part of the RESPA legislation. The course will explain each section of the law, provide examples and guidance on the requirements of the law, review all relevant real estate settlement documents, and provide very practical guidance on how to develop and implement a RESPA Quality Control program that will protect you and your clients in the real estate settlement transaction process.

At various points during the course, we will provide a short quiz. Each quiz is designed to help you evaluate your learning on the information you have just covered. You will receive a score on each quiz, as well as some helpful feedback on questions that you answered incorrectly. The feedback will direct you to the relevant part of the course so you can review that material again before moving forward.

Learning Objectives

1. To understand what RESPA is, why the legislation came into existence, and the consequences of RESPA violations.

2. To understand the content, purpose, and application of each section of this lengthy and complex piece of legislation.

3. To understand what disclosures are required in a real estate settlement transaction, who prepares them, and at what point they are to be prepared and delivered to the borrower.

4. To understand what activities and what types of transactions are exempt from RESPA.

5. To understand how RESPA is enforced, and by whom.

6. To understand the kind of settlements that result from RESPA violations.

7. To know what a RESPA Quality Control Plan is and how to implement a similar plan in your office.
